The Prodigal Son and The Swallow - Aesop's Fables

A boy, heir to a large fortune, soon squandered the long-term effort his father used to acquire it.

Having wasted everything, there was only a petty cape to warm up on winter nights.

In such poverty he saw a sneaky swallow before spring and, the prodigal son, believing the season of flowers arrived, sold his cloak.

The bad weather returned and, while the young man was shivering, he found the dead swallow, frozen by the cold.

"Unhappy little bird," he thought to himself, "your death condemns me to die like you, in this cold winter."

For following someone else's luck, yours is condemned.
